In the Southern California desert is a region called the Imperial Valley. It is home to many artificial islands of man-made greenry, drawing water from hundreds of miles away to create many surreal, utopian golf resorts. Next to these islands is the Salton Sea, a resort turned environmental nightmare. Conceptually, both are more or less the same place.
